About the Austudy calculator

Austudy is an income support payment for full-time students and Australian Apprentices aged 25 or older. It’s paid at the same rate as Youth Allowance for a single student living away from home, and it uses the same personal income test as Youth Allowance for students.

This calculator covers people who are single and have no children. Couples, and people with children, have extra tests that aren’t included yet.

Common questions

How much is Austudy?

For a single person with no children, up to $677.20 a fortnight from 1 January 2026, before the income test.

How much can I earn on Austudy?

You can earn $539 a fortnight before your payment reduces. Between $539 and $646 it reduces by 50 cents for each $1, and above that by 60 cents.

What is the Student Income Bank?

In fortnights you earn less than the free area, the unused part is banked as a credit. It can offset higher earnings later, so your payment may not reduce. This calculator doesn’t include it, so your payment could be higher.
